NCEA Level 1 German
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Nicole Polke.
Herzlich willkommen (Warm welcome) to NCEA Level 1 German! In this course, we embark on an exciting journey to explore the German language and culture through the lens of our immediate environment, with a particular focus on teenage life and everyday contexts.
We will delve into various aspects of German language and culture, building a solid foundation in vocabulary, grammar, and communication skills. Learning languages is about connecting and communicating within and across cultures and communities. With this in mind, we will focus on exploring important places and people in our life, fostering meaningful connections and understanding between our own culture and the German-speaking world.
At the heart of our learning journey is the Learning Area’s whakatauākī:
Ko tōu reo, ko tōku reo, te tuakiri tangata. Tīhei uriuri, tīhei nakonako.
This powerful proverb encapsulates the essence of language as a reflection of identity. As we learn to express ourselves in German, we also celebrate the uniqueness of our own identity and heritage. May our language flourish, and may the knowledge we gain pave the way for future generations to thrive.
