NCEA Level 2 Japanese
Course Description

Now that you know the basic Hiragana and Katakana scripts, in Level 2 Japanese you will learn and become more confident with Kanji.
This course is focused on comparing life in Japan and life as you know it. Do you want to be able to explore and compare different kinds of accommodation in Japan when you organise a trip with your family or friends? Find out about what life would be like as an exchange student in Japan? Explore Anime as part of Japanese Pop Culture? You will learn to do this in Level 2 Japanese. You will also learn to talk about sports, Japanese food (in particular obento); and we will compare common New Zealand and Japanese customs.
Through this course you will continue to develop the core skills for learning languages: listening, reading, communicating through writing and speaking, and presenting.
You will increase your cultural knowledge and develop empathy by discussing other people’s points of view.
Recommended Prior Learning
A minimum of 14 credits in Level 1 Japanese, OR the approval of the Head of Department of Languages.
Course Costs
This Course Contribution covers the cost of Education Perfect.
There will also be a trip to a Japanese Restaurant for lunch (cost TBC).

Pathway
Improve your memory, expand your creativity, help your listening skills and increase your career options through learning Japanese. Knowledge of Japanese also enables you to travel to or even study in Japan. It is great to know Japanese when thinking about a career as anything from a Psychologist, Librarian, Social Worker, or Outdoor Recreation Instructor, to a Customs or Immigration Officer, Flight Attendant, Teacher etc.
