NCEA Level 3 Food and Nutrition
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Rhonda Woodhall-Martin.
Understanding the impact of our food choices on our wellbeing is essential for life.
In this course you will develop your practical skills and have the opportunity to create your own recipes.
The topics we will study are:
How big business and politics influence our food choices and therefore our wellbeing
the place of ethics in food production
How to 'unpick' the large amount of nutritional messages we receive every day by developing critical thinking skills that will help you sort fact from fiction
Students will be able to have input into the topics that are studied.
Students will do a mix of internal and external assessment tasks.
By the end of this course students will have developed their creative and critical thinking skills, They will be able to work in teams, have good communication skills and good management skills.
Recommended Prior Learning
You should have gained at least 14 credits in Level 2 Food & Nutrition, OR have an interview with the Head of Department to determine the suitability of the course for your desired career pathway.
