NCEA Level 3 Physical Education

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Richard Beeston.

This course explores learning through movement contexts and by accepting challenges.

We will engage in movement to promote and support the development of physical and social skills; foster critical thinking, and understand the significance of physical activity in both self and wider societal development. We will also cover outdoor safety, and environmental concerns of our oceans.

We will develop interpersonal skills by demonstrating positive values and attitudes.

By engaging actively with the community, we will have the opportunity to gain extensive experience, knowledge and confidence in leadership roles.

Ongoing development of key concepts, including biophysical principles, sociocultural principles, skill acquisition, research, risk management in an outdoor setting, active participation and sports performance will be used for learning. Springboard and Platform diving, snorkeling, and personal training occur.

Travel to offsite venues such as Les Mills, Kelston Pool and West Wave are part of the course.

Some lunchtimes will be used for travel purposes, and students will start at 8.00am for some offsite activities.

A camp will also occur in conjunction with Safety in the Outdoors.
