Year 9 German
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Nicole Polke.
So you already have some perfectly good reasons for learning German...
Maybe you want to be able to communicate with relatives, or to travel to Germany during your summer break, or prepare yourself for study in a German-speaking country. Maybe a German exchange student sparked your interest, or you have a friend who recommended it, or you just like the way the language sounds. Whether you are an absolute beginner or have some prior German language experience - this course is for you!
Contrary to preconceptions, German is actually similar to English and consequently is easier to learn than you may think. Some English words and expressions we have used for centuries are actually German. Examples of these words are angst, kindergarten and kitsch. Yes, these words are originally German.
In Year 9 German you will learn how to express yourself in German and you will connect with German native speakers. You will develop the core skills for learning languages: listening, reading, communicating through writing and speaking, and presenting.
You will learn about German cultures and gain skills in perception and awareness.
By learning a new language, you will also gain a better understanding of your own language.
COURSE LENGTH: Half Year (One Semester)
MAKING YOUR LANGUAGE CHOICES
- All Year 9 students are required to choose a language other than English as one of their FOUR half-year options.
- Year 9 students need to rank their language course choices in order of preference
- Green Bay High School will try to accommodate first preferences where possible, but due to timetable, resourcing and staff constraints other preferences may be necessary.
