NCEA Level 2 Physics
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Zev Fishman.
We will further develop the skills you learnt in Level 1 Science Combined or Level 1 Science General.
There is some flexibility in this course to suit your individual interests and provide the requirements you may need for the Level 3 course and beyond.
You will deepen your thinking and problem-solving skills as you study the basic principles and laws of physics.
Course Overview
Term 1
The first few weeks are a revision and basic knowledge period, where you will re-familiarise yourself with the general concepts, mathematics skills and general knowledge required for Level 2 Physics. The rest of the term covers the Mechanics external skills that include projectile motion and kinematics.
Term 2
This term focuses on the two internally assessed standards. One is a practical assessment where you combine graphing skills with Physics concepts, and the other standard looks at the revolution of Nuclear Physics.
Term 3
This term we will complete the second external assessment, Electricity and Magnetism, and begin preparation for the examinations.
Term 4
This term is all about exam preparation.
Recommended Prior Learning
Students will need to have passed two Level 1 Science externals, OR have been recommended by their Level 1 Science teacher.
Students coming from the double science course must have passed the Physics external at Merit or above. Students coming from General Science will be subject to teacher approval.
