NCEA Level 1 Mathematics Enrichment
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: A. Garrett.
The course will focus on developing students' understanding of mathematical concepts and their ability to apply these concepts to real-world situations. The course will also emphasize problem-solving, reasoning, and communication skills, as these are critical skills required for success in both further studies and the workforce.
The course will cover the following topics:
Number and Algebra: This will include working with real numbers, algebraic expressions and equations, and linear graphs
Geometry: This will include properties of shapes, transformations, and trigonometry
Statistics: This will include data collection and analysis, probability, and inference.
Throughout the course, students will have the option to participate in an enrichment program that includes cross-curricular links, investigations into the history of mathematics, and project-based learning. The enrichment programme will allow students to explore mathematical concepts in more depth and to apply their knowledge to real-world problems.
Assessment will be based on the NCEA Level 1 Achievement Standards, and students will be given opportunities to achieve both internally and externally assessed standards. The assessments will be designed to assess the key skills and knowledge outlined in the course, including problem-solving, reasoning, and communication skills.
Recommended Prior Learning
This subject is suitable for all students who have demonstrated exceptional skill in at least one topic in Year 10, or those that have an interest in exploring mathematical topics beyond basic understanding.
