NCEA Level 1 Science General
Course Description

Science is compulsory in Year 11.
All students will complete this course unless they have opted for double Science: 01SCBC and 01SCPES.
In Level 1 General Science students will engage with the various types of investigations and the reason for approaching scientific questions using these various methods. The course emphasises science ideas related to our local environment and topical issues that are relevant to their generation and in particular, living in West Auckland. Students will complete a range of assessments including a practical experiment portfolio, research report, as well as external examinations. This course will prepare students for level 2 General Science or for any one of Level 2 Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Earth & Space Science.
Recommended Prior Learning
Students will have completed Year 9 and 10 Science which will prepare them to take Level 1 General Science.
