Year 9 Mathematics

Course Description

Year 9 Mathematics is a core subject that establishes foundational skills aligned with future NCEA expectations. Students will focus on the three strands of the New Zealand Mathematics and Statistics Curriculum with the aim of mastering concepts at phase 4 of the Curriculum.

Each term focuses on one of the following topics:

  • Number (Fractions, Decimals, Percentages, Rates, and Ratios)
  • Algebra (Algebraic Manipulation, and Linear and Quadratic Equations, Tables, and Graphs)
  • Geometry & Measurement (Geometric Transformations, Geometric Representations, and Measurement)
  • Statistics & Probability

In a wider sense, Mathematics is vital for all trades and professions, and leads to pathways in engineering, sciences, medicine, computer sciences, finance, physics, surveying, seismic geology, meteorology, aviation, and more. This course aims to begin equipping students with the practical Mathematical skills to be successful in such career pathways.
