NCEA Level 2 Mathematics Extension

Course Description

02MTX is an extension programme allowing students to gain credits in Mathematics, including the assessment of five NCEA Mathematics Achievement Standards.

02MTX is the course recommended for top mathematicians who are aiming to achieve at the highest level and are considering the 03MCX Course with NCEA Level 3 Calculus and Scholarship in the following year.

Students will also be exposed to some other Level 3 work in Algebra and there will be compulsory weekly extra sessions to back up classwork.

This course is demanding and requires consistent hard work in and out of the classroom. 

Students are expected to be working at an excellence level.


Recommended Prior Learning

At least 3 Merits from 1.2 - Algebra, 1.3 - Tables, Equations and Graphs and 1.6 - Geometric Reasoning, and final entry will be subject to approval from the Head of Department.

Course Costs

Students will require 4x 1E8 exercise books.
A Casio Graphics Calculator FX9750GII, although not compulsory, is highly recommended for this course.
