NCEA Level 2 Physical Education

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Richard Beeston.

This course explores learning through movement and accepting challenges. The focus is on the contribution of movement to the development of self, others and society.

We will develop both movement and interpersonal skills by demonstrating positive values and attitudes. Movement will also be used to promote and support the development of physical and social skills; foster critical thinking, and gain understanding of the significance of physical activity in our society.

Learning will take place through sports, games, leadership, adventure, and the outdoor environment.

By engaging actively with the community we will have the opportunity to gain extensive experience, knowledge and confidence in leadership roles.

Key concepts are functional anatomy, biomechanics, skill acquisition, exercise physiology, participation, sports performance, and safety in the outdoors.

Les Mills introduction sessions make up part of this course, as well as a Snow Camp in Term 3 (covering content towards Assessment Standard 91333 (Physical Education 2.7).

A winter camp is available for skiing/snowboarding/rafting - this is weather determined.
