Year 10 Digital Technologies is designed to prepare students for NCEA Level 1 - Digital Technologies / Programming / Computing. This course encompasses a wide variety of skills and will develop students' knowledge in computer science, programming, digital media (animation and image editing), and electronics.


Vector Visions: Unleashing Vector Graphics

  • Vector graphics offer boundless possibilities for creating scalable and visually captivating designs. Students will explore the foundations of vector graphics and its applications in various industries, such as graphic design, illustration, and digital art. They will learn the essential techniques for creating and editing vector shapes, paths, and curves. They will understand the power of anchor points, Bézier curves, and layers to craft intricate and scalable designs. 

Mobile App Mastery: Building apps for the Digital Age

  • Mobile apps have become an integral part of our daily lives, providing us with access to information, entertainment, and countless services. Students will learn the principles of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design, understanding how to create intuitive and visually appealing app interfaces. Through a series of engaging projects and assignments, students will apply their knowledge and skills to create functional mobile apps.

Masterpiece in Motion: Crafting Visual Stories

  • Video editing is a powerful art form that enables storytellers to bring their visions to life through visual composition, pacing, and creative manipulation. Throughout the course, students will explore the essential techniques and concepts of video editing, from importing and organizing footage to creating a polished final product. They will learn the fundamentals of timeline editing, transitions, audio mixing, color correction, and visual effects.

Coding Canvas: Creating Dynamic Websites with HTML and CSS

  • In the digital age, websites serve as the primary means of sharing information, conducting business, and connecting with the world. In this course, students will embark on an exciting journey into the world of web development, learning the foundations of HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) to create modern and visually appealing websites.

The art of Artificial Intelligence: AI in Social Media

  • Students explore what a recommender system is, and how it impacts what each of us sees when we are online. After learning how clustering in social media platforms can speed the spread of misinformation, students explore the social implications of these filter decisions for us as individuals, and as a society.

Cutting Edge Creations: Exploring 3D Design with Laser Cutting Technology

  • Laser cutting has revolutionized the world of design and fabrication, allowing for precise and intricate cutting and engraving on a wide range of materials. Using industry-standard software like Adobe Illustrator or Inkscape, students will learn how to create vector-based designs for laser cutting. They will explore the concepts of design optimization, nesting, and efficient material usage to create cost-effective and visually appealing designs. Students will also gain an understanding of the various parameters that affect laser cutting, such as power, speed, and focus.
